We specialise in:
- Designing sessions which develop the generic and research related skills of doctoral students, research staff and academic staff
- Careers advice and development for research students, staff and scientists
- Designing sessions on topics related to careers and personal awareness, including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (Dr Sara Shinton is a qualified MBTI practitioner)
- Developing training materials
- Writing articles (there are links to some of these on the portfolio page)
- Supporting personal development through mentoring
Our clients include universities, professional bodies and other educational organisations. Unfortunately we can’t usually work for individuals for two reasons:
- Personal coaching and guidance is costly and (sadly) scientists, students and post-docs tend not to be prosperous
- We are based in southern Scotland, which although beautiful, isn’t exactly convenient for most people!
The good news is that we are very accessible in the following ways:
We regularly tutor on the UK GRAD programme courses – you can go here to book a place on any course, or contact me if you would specifically like to attend a course where I will be present.
We give individual guidance to members of professional bodies, such as the British Society of Immunology, and Institute of Physics at conferences and career surgeries. (Previous clients include the Royal Society of Chemistry and Society of General Microbiology).
We deliver workshops to
- postgraduate students at the Universities of Newcastle, Edinburgh, St Andrews, Heriot-Watt, Queen Margaret’s University College, Salford, Leeds, Glasgow, Strathclyde, and Cardiff
- contract research staff at the Universities of Newcastle, Durham, Liverpool, Glasgow, St Andrews and through the NESTA Crucible programme and NWO Talent Classes
- academic and careers service staff at the Universities of Newcastle, Leeds and from institutions in the UKGRAD Hubs in the South West and Wales, Yorkshire and North East and Scotland
- international researchers in The Hague, Orvieto, Stockholm and Utrecht
...and we are always interested in working with other institutions and organisations.
